Keisha Molby-Baez, born in Kingston, Jamaica, W.I., mixed with Indian and Costa Rican, raised and residing in Bronx, N.Y. She’s also known as Coco, who’s an author, poet, writer, motivational speaker, curator, workshop facilitator, community activist, wife, mother, chef, Unites States veteran and Bronx Coordinator.
She has also been involved within her three children's schools over the past 18 years as the Co-chairperson of the School Leadership Team, PSA President, DOE President's Council Secretary and a Learning Leader for District 12. Keisha also created an amazing Resource Center filled with thousands of free information, material and gifts for the children, parents and staff. She also created an effective and elaborative Parent Action Plan for the parents to help assist their children with state testing and being prepared for Parent Teacher Conferences. Keisha has been recognized many times for her outstanding work ethics, dedication, support and contributions within her community. She also paid if forward to her community by collaborating a special event with Senator Rev. Reuben Diaz Sr. and Assemblyman Marcos Crespo, for the parents and children in temporary housing.
She worked within many different fields, which mold her into the helpful, caring, loving, humble, sweet, resourceful, supportive and for-the-people person that she is today. Keisha’s committed to be the change she wants to see in the world. She serves the people through her poetry books, curating her Coco’s Delight events, her arts showcase and her Mind Over Matter workshops.
Keisha found her purpose through creative writing in middle school and uses her poetry as a platform for community building and self-expressions. She’s determined to share her life’s journey through her books and performances. Her struggles encourage her each day to rise, each time she feels weighed down by all the negatives and daily setbacks. From it all, she learned to register her pains as pleasures, managing to master mind over matter.
Her first book “Tears Laced With Fire” is a self-empowering poetry book that is about truth, endurance, family, relationships, struggles, loss, relentlessness, passion, survival, self-love, struggles with her life long health issues and all the pain she has overcome. Uniquely, each of her poems illustrate a story about why her tears are laced with fire and how releasing those tears helped her survive many difficulties. Each poem draws you into her deep emotions. The poems are filled with the pain she has overcome, her deep thoughts, inner feelings and perceptions. Her poems also express how she faced life changing obstacles and serious health issues that could've broken anyone emotionally, physically and mentally. Her passion for writing, keeps her determined, motivated and filled with purpose. Writing this book helped her to express her true passions for writing and performing her poetry. Keisha learned over the years, how to turn her pain into purpose. This is what encouraged her to create her workshops of "Creating Your Safe" and "Building Your Safe". Her workshops are for ages 10 and above.
Her second book "A Little Bit of Sugar" is a heartfelt collection that emphasizes the true importance of family, true friends and supporters. A collection of poems portraying the gratitude and purpose of the little bits of sugar in her life. This book of poems illustrates how Coco coped with all her trials, tribulations, the bits of sugar in her life and the love she sprinkles everywhere. The book tells of how she managed her emotional and physical pains, appreciated everything good and bad, shared her love with all, offered support and realized how sometimes less is more. A poetry book about self-love and self-care journey. A book about her happiness despite all the harsh lessons and pain. A book Keisha wrote to express her physical, mental, emotional and spiritual growth. Sharing her unique stories of becoming mindful, being vulnerable, learning to trust her intuition, listen more to her inner voice, practicing before teaching, setting healthy boundaries, taking necessary breaks to protect her heart and health; while promoting love n forgiveness as she lives a content life full of gratitude and love for all. Keisha would like for everyone to pause and reflect on their daily life lessons more, realizing changed actions is the best apology and that there is always something to be grateful for everyday.
Keisha's Mind Over Matter workshops teaches you how to replace your negatives with positives, turn your pains into passions; while creating a mental and physical safe. Her workshops help different communities to communicate through writing, drawing and sharing their cultures. The workshops also help the attendees to express and collaborate their values, views, inner feelings and perspectives with one another. Keisha's workshops are intended to spark deep thoughts, group discussions, ignite passion and above all spread LOVE.
Keisha created Coco’s Delight and curated Poetry nights at The South of France in the Bronx and Cari Wine & Bar in Harlem, which helped the poetic scene; by offering a stage and platform for all artists to share their work, events, books, artwork and projects. Her events are unique and full of love. She’s also known for her famous “Raffle of Gratitude”, in which she awards everyone a gift of appreciation at the end of each event. It’s a one-of-a-kind experience you won’t forget and will certainly enjoy.
She’s been recognized for being a great curator, supporter and producer for her community. She enjoys writing, drawing, painting, reading, attending open mic’s, empowering events, listening to music, playing softball and spending quality time with her family and friends. Keisha has incredible energy, a lovely inner light and a raw-truth style that captivates her audience and community. She's currently working on her 3rd poetry book and it's expected to be released in 2020.
